THE PERSONAL TRAVEL GUIDE
The Personal Travel Guide is a palmtop-based product concept aimed at providing information for the business traveler in the palm of their hands. A prototype of the Personal Travel Guide was included as part of the Atlanta Traveler Information Showcase during a four month period in 1996. The objectives of the showcase were to demonstrate to the public how several different types of Advanced Traveler Information Systems work, and to gain some feedback from actual users. The Personal Travel Guide was based on the HP 200LX palmtop PC, SkyTel 2-Way paging, Etak maps and business listings, SanDisk flashdisks, and OAG FlightDisk. No special purpose gadgets were employed. These products fit into a coat pocket or purse, and ran for days and weeks on common AAA and AA batteries. Complete traveler information, including information on traffic and transit in Atlanta, complemented the more common functionality of address, phone and appointment book, wireless e-mail and paging, etc.
