COMPACTION OF GRAVEL-BITUMEN BY MEANS OF VIBRATING ROLLERS

COMPACTAGE DES GRAVES-BITUME AU MOYEN DE ROULEAUX VIBRANTS

Full-scale research was conducted on the compaction of gravel-bitumen mixtures to study the influence of the following parameters: vibrating equipment, number of passes, nature of gravel- bitumen, compaction temperature, thickness compacted and eccentric moments of the unbalanced shaft on compaction quality. This study was conducted with machines representative of the range of vibrating equipment currently on the market in France (for the compaction of roadbases). Three types of equipment were investigated: self-propelled one-roller machine, mixed vibrating pneumatic roller, and tandem roller. The material compacted consisted of gravel-bitumen mixtures with fairly low workability (completely crushed aggregates). /TRRL/
