FIVE YEARS OF PROGRESS: 110 COMMUNITIES WHERE ISTEA IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The landmark Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) is making great strides in the way the federal government approaches transportation, and transportation's role in society. This book presents case studies of successful ISTEA projects to show how the legislation has transformed the transportation process by considering alternative modes of transportation, involving the public in the decision making process, and making communities more livable through improved transportation systems. This report is intended to describe how ISTEA has been used to support projects what were not being pursued before 1991, and how a broader view of transportation investments has allowed us to improve communities across the country in new ways.
