HOW SAFE ARE OUR ROADS? A DATA REPORT ON THE IMPACT OF DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING ON HIGHWAY SAFETY IN THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN REGION
This report is an annual compilation and analysis of data on highway safety in the Washington metropolitan region. The report focuses specifically on three factors which undermine traffic safety: drunk and drugged driving, speeding, and the failure to use safety belts. Statistics discussed relate to crashes, fatal crashes, and injurious crashes; drunk and drugged driving arrests; alcohol/drug-related traffic incidents; fatal crashes for which excessive speed was a contributing factor; and safety restraint use. Relevant laws governing roadway travel are also reviewed.
