OFF-PEAK HOUR TRANSIT ROUTING
A technique which allows off-peak hour bus routing to meet off-peak travel demands associated with an activity center was developed through the flexible-fixed system concept. The premise of this routing scheme is that during off-peak hour, transit should take on a local style of service providing mobility oriented to the types and locations of trips occurring during this period. The technique consists of 4 segments: selection of the activity center, identification of trip making characteristics to the center during such hours by an on-site survey; identification of spatially significant characteristics of the population and its travel behavior; and the establishment of service levels for route design. The flexible fixed transit routing system may be used for peak hour or off-peak hour travel. By recognizing the spatial concentrations of employees and trade centers, bus routing may be adjusted by time of day to connect major centers of trip attractions with residential trip productions.
