GROUND WATER LOWERING AS A CONSEQUENCE OF TUNNEL BLASTING
GRUNDVATTENSANKNING TIL FOLJD AV TUNNELSPRANGNING
A hard rock tunnel for multi-purpose use on the northern part of Hisingen near Kungalv (the Rodbo tunnel) was projected about the turn of the year 1969/70 and was blasted during August 1970-March 1972. By means of measurements of ground water table, pore pressure and land subsidence it has been possible to elucidate roughly the extension and the effects in clay areas of the ground water lowering which was the result of the tunnel blasting. Since the rock conditions in the mentioned area are well-known both by engineering geological investigations in connection with projecting and by geological mapping of the completed tunnel it has also been possible to study the relation between ground water lowering and rock quality. The variations of the ground water table have been analysed on the basis of the following material which include: Measured precipitation and calculated "net precipitation" at the SMHI-station 7147 Save; ground water table measurements in the SGU ground water net area Harestad; an engineering geological key map of the area with indications of rock, moraine, sand, clay and tectonical zones; classification of the area in 3 rock quality zones. The analysis includes, among others: A schematic draw down curve along the crush zones penetrated by the tunnel; schematic plans of the soil areas suffered from ground water lowering at 6 different periods of the blasting of the tunnel and about 2 years after the completed tunnel works; an estimation of the infleunce of existing rock quality on the ground water lowering; viewpoints on the estimation of the influence area for ground water lowering.
