TWO AIDS FOR FIELD PERSONNEL IN REDUCING SKIDDING ACCIDENTS
This is the final report for this project. The report briefly describes the six interim reports: (1) "Skidding Accident Systems Model", (2) "Factors Affecting Vehicle Skids: A Basis for Wet Weather Speed Zoning", (3) "Rainfall and Visibility--The View From Behind the Wheel", (4) "The Use of Rainfall Characteristics in Developing Methods for Reducing Wet Weather Accidents in Texas", (5) "Manual Guidelines for Skidding Accident Reduction", (6) "Treatments for Skid Prone Accident Sections--Evaluation of Effectiveness". The primary purpose of this report is to reveal studies in (a) An Asphaltic Concrete Mix Design Technique for Predetermining Skid Resistance and (b) Equipment for Dynamic Superelevation Measurements. Stero-photo analysis procedures reported by Schonfeld were combined with an asphaltic concrete mix design method to allow the prediction of the SN40 value of the mix in the polished state. Also equipment was developed and fabricated to measure the cross-slope or superelevation at high speeds. /Author/
