ICE ENGINEERING FOR OFFSHORE PETROLEUM EXPLORATION IN CANADA
The incentive to develop hydrocarbon resources which may exist beneath ice-covered waters, had led to significant advances in ice engineering in Canada. During the last few years techniques have been developed for drilling year-round in the Beaufort Sea, drilling off-the-ice in the Artic Islands, and drilling amongst the icebergs of the Labrador Sea. This paper describes these operations, and the research and development in ice engineering which has made them possible.
