HUMAN FACTORS IN SHIP HANDLING

This paper makes a plea for attention to be given to a better integration of ergonomics into ship handling. It has been explained how an ergonomic or human factor approach to the design, construction and operation of ships are based on knowledge about human physical and mental abilities. Consideration of the human factor approach has been directed to the field of ship control.
