METHODS OF ESTIMATION OF SETTLEMENT OF FILLS OVER ALLUVIAL DEPOSITS FROM THE RESULTS OF FIELD TESTS
A number of methods of estimating settlements of fills over alluvial deposits from the results of field tests are described. The calculations are illustrated in detail by using data from a site at Mtwalumi on the south coast of Natal. The bridge approach fill at this site is currently being constructed and will be instrumented so that detailed settlement records will be available for comparison with the predictions made in this report. Particular emphasis is given to the methods of estimating settlements based on Dutch Probe results which include the use of the Friction Sleeve for assessing the material type. /Author/
