PRODUCTION, STORAGE AND TRANSPORT OF OFFSHORE NATURAL GAS USING A LIQUEFACTION PLANT ON A STEEL SEMISUBMERSIBLE
In a systems analysis several alternatives for offshore natural gas liquefaction were investigated regarding their technical realization and the economy of their employment. Herewith, one of the most promising alternatives is introduced: The natural gas liquefaction plant is located on a semi-submersible platform. The crude gas is fed from the drill hole to the liquefaction plant through a high-pressure pipe. The liquefied gas is led from the platform to a combined storage and transfer buoy through a bundle of Pu-insulated inner and outer corrugated pipes which is carried below the water surface in a certain water depth. From the buoy the LNG is transferred periodically--again by means of a pipe bundle--to a LNG Tanker which is moored to the buoy at a single point. The complete system can easily be transferred to other locations and will be operable in sea areas with severe environmental conditions--as for instance in the North Sea--for more than 90 percent of the year.
