AN ESTIMATION PROCEDURE FOR TRAFFIC LOADING

This report outlines the development of a rationally based visual estimation procedure for determining traffic loading on a pavement. The loading expressed in terms of the number of equivalent 80 kN single axles (E80), is determined from traffic survey data of the number of axles and the degree of loading of all heavy vehicles i.e. vehicles of over 2,700 kg capacity. Aspects of vehicle loading and commodity transported are discussed in relation to the development of axle load factors. A method of recording and processing the visual survey data for pavement design purposes isoutlined. /Author/
