STUDY OF TRAFFIC CONFLICTS AND ACCIDENT EXPOSURE
The work includes research into the concepts of road accident exposure and accident liability and also a series of field studies in the Sydney area designed to investigate the potential of vehicle conflicts counts and classifications in the assessment of exposure. Data on traffic conflicts and flows and accident histories have been analysed for a variety of locations, broadly classified into intersection and "main street" situations. The results have revealed a number of areas in which connections between conflicts, exposure and accidents can be found and they indicate that further research into traffic conflict situations would be worth pursuing. Suggestions as to possible directions for this work are presented in the conclusion to the report. /Author/TRRL/
