ESTIMATION OF TRAFFIC CONDITIONS
VORAUSSCHATZUNG DES VERKEHRSABLAUFS UBER DEN WEG
The demand for a more effective use of roads has led to a number of detailed experiments with automatic traffic control systems. Any kind of purposeful interference, however, has to be based on a precise knowledge of the present, and possibly, of the future traffic flow. The two models introduced in this paper make it possible to estimate the traffic frequency of a Federal Freeway up to a distance of nearly three kilometers. This paper also discusses an automatic system of surveying the traffic frequency on a limited section of a Federal Freeway. The most striking advantage of all the algorithms presented in this paper is their simplicity. Since they are mainly based on microprocessors they can do without any large computer systems. /Author/
