DETECTORS FOR PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC

DETEKTORER FOER GAANGTRAFIK

The purpose of this project is partly to survey the possibilities of technical and economic realization of quantitative detection of pedestrian traffic, and partly to assess the needs and benefits of signal control based on such detection. The present study is divided into three parts, a technical and economic study, a traffic study and a cost benefit analysis. The technical and economic study comprises a literature inventory, an inquiry concerning the development of applicable systems, a description and evaluation of these systems and a discussion of future systems. The traffic study comprises an evaluation of the presence of traffic signals and a study of the consequences for automatic control systems and traffic economy of signalization based on the size of pedestrian and vehicle flow. In the cost benefit analysis there is an evaluation of the introduction of detectors for pedestrians from the point of view of economics of society and there is also an assessment of the maximum costs of detector systems related to their use. /TRRL/
