BEHAVIOUR OF SLENDER CONCRETE COLUMNS
A simple assemblage consisting of a spring and two rigid bars is used to illustrate the characteristic behaviour of a slender concrete column. By varying the load deformation characteristics of the spring, a variety of effects including non-linear stability failure, creep failure and creep buckling are investigated. The bar-spring model provides a very convenient means for studying basic reinforced-concrete column behaviour, while avoiding the complexities of a full mathematical analysis. /Author/TRRL/
