LOADS ON SIDE SUPPORTS FOR TIMBER CARRYING ROAD VEHICLES

PAAKAENNINGAR PAATIMMERFORDONS SIDOSTOETTER

The aim of the investigation was to provide evidence for test standards and requirements concerning side supports on timber-carrying trucks and trailers. The loads on side supports on truck-trailer combinations were measured during regular work. The bending moment at the lower end of the side supports was measured during driving in unloaded condition and during loading, transportation and unloading of timber and pulp wood. The results show that the load on the side supports was essentially independent of whether the load consisted of timber or pulp wood. An exception from this was found during unloading. Due to the use of different unloading devices, large differences in bending moment were experienced. During unloading of pulp wood the highest loads in the whole investigation were achieved. Based on the test results, static and dynamic test procedures and demands for side supports for timber carrying vehicles have been proposed. /TRRL/
