TRANSPORT AND THE ELDERLY. PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE ACTION
Obstacles to the mobility of elderly people travelling on foot, by private and by public transport are discussed, and means of overcoming them are put forward. The effect of rising fares and falling bus subsidies on old people are examined together with the various concessionary fare schemes set up by local authorities. Special problems arising from illness associated with old age are treated separately, and means of reaching medical treatment and day care facilities are analysed. The last chapter deals with the use of voluntary transport resources. /TRRL/
