RELATION BETWEEN THE DEFOGGING AREA AND POWER LEVEL FOR ELECTRICALLY HEATED REAR WINDOW OF AUTOMOBILE
A two-dimensional heat conduction model is developed in order to estimate the power requirement for electrically heated backlight. The calculations show a fairly good agreement with the experiments in a test chamber, which indicates that the model is useful for the design of power requirement. On the basis of numerical calculations, it is determined that a power level of 400 w/sq.m is adequate under common environmental conditions, and 550 w/sq.m sufficient for severe conditions. Moreover, the model is applied to the automatic defogging system with a humidity sensor, and the optimum position of the sensor and its sensing level of humidity are determined. /Author/TRRL/
