SOME PROPERTIES OF TURBULENCE IN A STRATIFIED SHEARING FLOW
The report contains a description of research closely connected to an experimental investigation of turbulent, stratified, shearing flow. The experiment is one of the simplest in which three basic properties of a turbulent flow-stratification, energy dissipation and shear-are present, and it is hoped that a good understanding of this experiment will lead to useful information about turbulent processes in the atmosphere and oceans and other density- stratified fluid systems.
