WHEN CARS ARE CLEAN AND CLEVER: A FORWARD-LOOKING VIEW OF SUSTAINABLE AND INTELLIGENT AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
This article looks at the future of automobiles in cities in light of emerging technologies. It argues that autos will be made sustainable and used for more -- rather than fewer -- trips. It shows how intelligent vehicles and highways will eventually enable virtually all transportation to be provided by private or public automobiles, even in the largest cities, in a way that maintains the simple urban pleasures. This article is based on the author's book, To the Cities of the Second Car Age.
