RECYCLING OF BY-PRODUCTS OF PLASTIC MATERIALS FOR USE IN BITUMINOUS MIXTURES IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

REUTILISATION DES DECHETS PLASTIQUES DANS LES ENROBES ROUTIERS

The author describes the improvement in bituminous mixtures by the addition of recycled by-products of plastic materials. This process can be used with three conventional binders: bitumen, pitch, and bitumen-pitch mixture, and with thin thermoplastic materials. In all cases, a marked increase in mechanical strength and compaction, and a lower sensitivity to temperature than the conventional bituminous mixtures, are observed. The method offers economic advantages. The laboratory in Nancy has taken a patent in the name of hte French government. /TRRL/
