OMEGA NAVIGATION SYSTEM STATUS AND FUTURE PLANS

Omega is a very low frequency (VLF) radio navigational system operating in an internationally allocated navigational band of the electro-magnetic spectrum between 10 and 14 kilohertz. Experimental stations commenced operating in 1966 in support of system evaluation and testing. This paper reviews the current status and future plans for implementation and management of the Omega Navigation System, with emphasis on current concepts in transmission formating, synchronization and data acquisition.
