INTRICATE REPAIR OF CAVITATION DAMAGED PROPELLER
New propellers are subject to the ever-increasing price of bronze and also long delivery periods. This article illustrates how repairs by welding, using special materials, can save money. The example given here describes a ship's propeller which sustained corrosion and cavitation damage to such an extent that the spare propeller had to be fitted. The repair procedure proved highly successful and very inexpensive, and the work was fully approved by the Classification Society concerned. Subsequent operation has shown no sign of recurrence of the previous problems.
