COMPUTERISATION OF TOTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR ELECTRIC CABLES

A summary of present marine electric cable management systems is initially given with special reference to assessment of cable quantity required, ordering of electric cables, circuit design, cable cutting and materials allocation. In the total management system described in this paper, previously prepared standard cable information and adequately investigated cable run information and cable run system information are input to a computer, with each cable's shortest laying path and cable length calculated at output. The following data are recorded for each item: (a) cable quantity list; (b) cable order list; (c) specific cable run list; (d) cable hanger list; (e) cable cutting list. This is a total management system which produces all necessary item data from ordering to materials allocation. Input data and main computer output are described together with a system flow chart and sample output listings.
