A CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF THE SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS OF BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS WITH STONE AGGREGATES
CONTRIBUTO ALLO STUDIO DELLE CARATTERISTICHE SUPERFICIALI DELLE PAVIMENTAZIONE LIT0-BITUMINOSE
Two tests normally used for assessing the surface characteristics (roughness and adhesion) of a pavement are the sand patch test and the skid test. The study described is an attempt to establish a correlation between these two tests. The results obtained show that the surface characteristics as measured by the two tests are statistically independent, and that surface roughness measurements by the sand patch method are of little value, since they are essentially geometric and give no indication of the nature of the tyre-road contact. /TRRL/
