A MULTIPLICATIVE MODEL FOR ANALYZING TRENDS IN WINTER TRAFFIC DEMAND
MODELLO MOLTIPLICATIVO PER ANALIZARE LE TENDENSIALITA DELLA DOMANDA DI TRAFFICO INVERNALE
A method for forecasting trends in winter traffic demands is based on an analysis of the seasonal fluctuations of traffic along an artery subject to the various types of winter weather (snow, glazed ice, recurrent fog etc). The linear solution proposed results from an interpolation of average daily traffic values on six motorway sections: Torino-Ivrea-Quincinetto, Quincinetto-Aosta, Ivrea-Santhia, the Mont Blanc tunnel, the Gran San Bernardo tunnel, and Milano-Chiasso. The study was carried out in order to evaluate the effectiveness of winter maintenance methods and to quantify the benefits resulting from maintenance expenditure. /TRRL/
