AN ATTEMPT TO ASSESS THE TIME SAVING ACHIEVED BY THE USE OF PRIVATE MOTOR VEHICLES

VERSUCH EINER SCHAETZUNG DER ZEITERSPARNIS BEI BENUTZUNG DER PRIVATEN MOTORFAHRZEUGE

An attempt was made to assess the time saving achieved by substituting private vehicles for public transport in the areas of private and freight transport. The report focuses on the performance achieved by transport vehicles (excluding air and sea traffic) in Switzerland in 1970. In the case of transport for agricultural purposes, the comparison was not based on public transport, but on the saving in working hours reported on reliable authority. Results :- (1) in the area of private transport, the annual time saving resulting from the use of private vehicles amounted to 897 working hours. In the case of company owned transport the result was 31 working hours. The saving in the case of two wheeled vehicles amounted to 30 working hours. This amounted to a total annual saving of 958 working hours. (2) in the area of freight transport the annual amount of time saved due to the implementation of motor vehicles totalled 136 working hours. (3) in agriculture the annual time saving resulting from the use of agricultural motor vehicles amounted to 389 working hours. It is concluded that the use of private motor vehicles has great advantages. /TRRL/
