CAPACITY OF ROADS
CAPACITE DES ROUTES.
The authors review current studies conducted for defining the relations between vehicle journey time, traffic flow and road characteristics. Particular mention is made of the need of calculating mean yearly values if economic calculations are to be made. The studies carried out are based on experimental measurements of high traffic flows, available statistics, and, in particular, on permanent annual traffic counts. The processing of the data collected, which is mostly carried out statistically, is not yet completed, but some results are presented in the form of relations. The saturation problem is extremely difficult to solve, and an empirical approach had to be used, as there were not sufficient data to explain the corresponding phenomena. /TRRL/
