END-ZONE STRESSES IN PRE-TENSIONED PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS

The stress distribution in the end-zones of pre-tensioned prestressed concrete members have been determined by the finite element method. The suitability of the method is examined by applying it to available experimental data from earlier studies. At present empirical formulae are available for prediction of only the maximum transverse tensile stress at the end-face centroid of the section. The finite element method gives a complete picture of the stress distribution in the end-zone, and affords good scope for studying the influence of various section parameters and different bond characteristics of prestressing steel on the stress distribution in the end-zones.(a) /TRRL/
