DELAYED LONDON LINE HIRES BECHTEL TO FINISH WORK BY TURN OF CENTURY
Punishing delays have pushed completion of London, England's, $4.7-billion underground railroad extension dangerously close to its unbreakable New Year's Eve 1999 deadline. To ensure the 16-km Jubilee Line reaches the $1.3-billion Millennium Dome exhibition site in time for its royal opening, the owner London Transport has hired Bechtel Ltd., London, to perform fast-track completion. To expedite the new three-phase opening, starting from the east end in Spring 1999, Bechtel is marshaling 25-30 senior staff from other global projects.
