SIMULATORS - PROGRESS IN TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR RESEARCH?
SIMULATOREN-EINFORTSCHRITT FUER DIE ERFORSCHURG DES VERKEHRSVERHALTENS?
Problems of vehicle simulation are discussed in an introduction to a magazine specialising in vehicle simulators. The following points are investigated. (1) the advantages the vehicle simulation method offers in terms of research in the field of traffic psychology; (2) the technical possibilities for true representation of the actual driving situation in the test laboratory; (3) the areas in which the limitations of simulation and the defects of the method to be found; (4) evaluation of two different trends in potentially complete simulation and the simulation of contributory aspects of driving situation. /TRRL/
