SLIP FORM PAVING RECORD
Construction of the 13 km Leicester section of the M69 motorway is described. 1010 M of 11 M wide, three-lane carriageway was laid in one day. The design slab thickness was 265 mm. The subgrade materials are frost susceptible, requiring a total pavement thickness of 450 mm. The unreinforced slab incorporates two longitudinal joints, with transverse contraction joints at 5 M centres. Contraction joint innovations were the use of 400 mm long dowel bars and a modified support assembly in place of the 600 mm long bars originally called for, and use of a pvc sheath to prevent bonding over half the length of the dowel bars in place of conventional bituminous debonding compound. /TRRL/
