LATERAL CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGN FOR AHS
The social demand for enhanced transportation systems which improve safety, mobile-freight, and environmental impact while reducing the driver's workload is increasing. The advanced systems which assist the driver's perception, decision making and vehicle operation, while also ensuring optimum vehicle operation using information communication and vehicle operating technologies are required. The lateral control system is one of these advanced systems which meets this challenge and aims at a partially automated vehicle control, by providing vehicles and drivers with information required for safe driving. The functions of the control system implement vehicle operation in both lateral and longitudinal directions, and eventually a fully automated vehicle operation system will be in operation. The in-depth examination is being implemented on the lateral control system focusing on the system content, application images, subsystem infrastructure such as sensors, communication systems, display and system management. This paper sets forth the system content and application images. For the covering abstract, see IRRD 490001.
