THE USE OF TIME-LAPSE CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR THE MOVING CAR OBSERVER METHOD
Time-lapse cinematography was applied to the moving car observer method as an economical method of collecting data on traffic movements along the radial routes into Edinburgh. The method was developed in preference to the conventional procedures of the matching registration numbers method, elevated observer method, time-lapse cinematography and moving car observer method. The background to the experimental technique, the photographic equipment required and the operational procedure are outlined. The method of analysing the film and estimating traffic flow and journey time is described. Further traffic engineering information and data which may be extracted from the time-lapse film are discussed. Finally the advantages, disadvantages and potential accuracy of moving vehicle time-lapse cinematography are considered.(a) /TRRL/
