VOLUNTARY PARKING CASH OUT - THE NEW LAW AND ITS IMPACT ON TRANSIT AND VANPOOL BENEFITS
On August 5, 1997, a change in the commute benefit provision of the Internal Revenue Code was enacted as part of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. This change, which became effective January 1, 1998, allows employers to offer voluntary parking cash out programs to their employees. This article provides a summary of the new law and its impact on transit and vanpool benefits.
