TOWARDS COST-EFFECTIVE DESIGN OF SHIP STRUCTURES
The paper discusses recent work that has been directed primarily at the creation of improved procedures for designing efficient and reliable ship structures. Design for production was shown to be an essential feature of such a programme, and some of the problems identified in evolving a production-oriented design procedure have since been under study. A brief review of some of this work is given, along with some new results from one particular study, recently completed, of design for production.
