FACTORS AFFECTING THE RESPONSE OF EMULSIFIED ASPHALT MIXTURES
The paper presents results obtained to date from a comprehensive laboratory study of dense graded emulsified asphalt mixtures and the implications for mixture design. The initial step in developing mixture design procedures was to conduct a comprehensive laboratory study designed to give quantitative information about the effects of the significant factors on mixture response. Many factors influence the performance of emulsified asphalt mixtures used in pavement bases and several of the most important were selected for an initial study. Also, several tests were evaluated. The experimental design and testing are first presented, followed by the major results from the experiment, and finally mix design implications are discussed and recommendations provided.
