MASSIVE EXCAVATION MELTS BY EXPERT MANAGEMENT
A large and unusual California freeway grading project on 1-15 near San Diego is described. The excavation included earth-rock in all degrees of consolidation from sand-clay residuals to solid granite. Two criteria for selecting the key machinery were: the varied nature of the materials to be moved and the length and minus grades of the long hauls through and out of the biggest cut. Hauls and grades for the various equipment spreads were estimated.
