COMMERCIAL VEHICLE FLEET MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS. PHASE I INTERIM REPORT
The Federal Highway Administration initiated this study to determine whether there are commercial vehicle fleet management needs that can be met through public sector involvement in the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies and standards. This Interim Report summarizes the research efforts and findings of Phase I of the research effort. This report also presents conclusions regarding the current state of ITS in the motor carrier industry, potential public sector services, and specific issues and areas that merit ongoing public sector attention. The second phase of this two-phase project is identifying current problems and bottlenecks in the nation's intermodal freight transportation system and investigating where the application of ITS technologies may play a role.
