MARGARETHA SMITS. VERSATILE DOUBLE-HULLED STANDARD CARGO SHIP
The Margaretha Smits, built by De Groot en Van Vliet, Scheepswerf en Machinenfabriek B.V. of Slikkerveer for M. Smits of Copenhagen, is the first of a series of four standard cargo vessels. She has been designed for the carriage of all types of dry cargo. Waterballast tanks, horizontally divided into an upper and lower section, have been arranged in the ship's double hull, resulting in one unobstructed cargo hold, which is fitted with mechanical ventilation capable of 20 air changes per hour. There are two slewing cranes for cargo handling, each mounted on a travelling platform.
