TRANSPORTING WALES INTO THE FUTURE. WELSH TRANSPORT POLICY STATEMENT
This statement is published to explain the Welsh context of the integrated transport policy set out in the White Paper 'A new deal for transport: better for everyone' (Cm 3950) (see IRRD 491254). It sets out the present position in Welsh transport; analyses the problems of, and proposes appropriate solution for, diverse urban and rural areas in Wales; summarises the results of the strategic review of the Welsh trunk roads (to be published during 1998); emphasizes the key role of local authorities in implementing integrated policies; and considers inter-relationships between transport and the environment the economy and land use planning. The Welsh Transport Advisory Group will continue to advise on the implementation of the integrated transport policy.
