NATURAL AND LOAD-INDUCED STRESSES ON A WHEEL TIRE
LAST-UND EIGENSPANNUNGEN EINES RADREIFENS
The authors show the effects of natural and load-induced stresses on the strains in the material in the wheel/rail contact area resulting from abnormal tire wear such as cracks, scaling, or crushing of the material. The results are based on recent tests on natural stresses in the rail/wheel contact surface and make it possible to determine new criteria for the choice of wheel steels.
