A PRACTICAL METHOD FOR TESTING SHIP MODELS IN TRANSIENT WATER WAVES
Previous papers have certified that testing ship models in transient water waves is one of the useful methods for the investigation of ship frequency transfer functions in waves. The present paper gives a detailed explanation about experimental techniques, apparatus and a method of numerical analysis for the practical uses of testing ship models in transient water waves. Quoting a testing example, it is shown that the measured results in transient waves and in regular waves coincide, also the values calculated by the strip method roughly coincide with both measured results. It is desirable that the model experiments in transient water waves take the place of the experiments in regular waves for the investigation of linear ship transfer functions in waves, because the use of model basins for ship motion test is remarkably decreased and the execution of the pesent method is easier.
