INFLUENCE OF ASPHALTENES ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF BITUMEN
VLIYANIE ASFAL'TENOV NA STRUKTURNO-MEKANICHESKIE SVOJSTVA BITUMOV
Recent investigations carried out at the Soyuzdornii have shown that the properties of road bitumens, for a given type of structure, depend on the nature of asphaltenes, in particular on their molecular mass and on a conventional coefficient of solubility in aromatic hydrocarbons. The increase in molecular mass occurs simultaneously with a rise in the softening and brittleness temperature. The temperature also rises when the solubility index rises to a critical value, beyond which it does not vary very much. /TRRL/
