METHOD OF MEASURING THE TEMPERATURE OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES DURING LAYING BY MEANS OF AN INFRARED PYROMETER

METHODEDE MESURE DE LA TEMPERATURE PAR VOIE PYROMETRIQUE INFRAROUGE DES ENROBES HYDROCARBONE EN COURS DE MISE EN OEUVRE

A measuring apparatus was designed and developed in the laboratory with a view to making rapid, non-destructive and continuous measurements of the temperature of bituminous mixtures during laying. It consists of an infrared pyrometric telescope with total radiation and with an amplification and measuring chain. In-situ tests showed that average temperatures in the mass can be determined with a sensitivity of 2 degrees celsius. The accuracy of the measurements is in the same range as the average intrinsic degree of heterogeneity of the temperature of the layers laid, that is to say of the order of 5 degrees celsius. The response time of the measuring system is less than one second. This equipment, complete with a warning system which preselects temperature thresholds, can be directly affixed in a compacting machine. /TRRL/
