A REMEDY FOR OIL SPILLS

A JBF Scientific Corporation method for controlling oil spills is described. The Dynamic Inclined Plane skimmer (DIP) was developed in response to the problem of removing oil from water surfaces. The DIP is able to skim floating material, i.e. oil, sorbents, debris, dead fish, and seaweed. The process involves collecting oil by forcing it under the water surface. The oil follows the surface of the moving inclined plane to a collection well under the unit. Buoyant forces cause the oil to naturally separate in the well where it forms a deep oil pocket. Water- free oil is pumped from the top of the well to storage. Size and capacity of the DIP can be scaled up without losing efficiency. Various model types are described as well as examples of use.
