CYCLIC TRIAXIAL STRENGTH OF STANDARD TEST SAND-DISCUSSION
The discusser agrees with the paper's theme that the method of sample preparation and the remolded sample density are critical factors in reproducing cyclic triaxial test results. It is noted however, that maintaining desired stress conditions during sample saturation and during the cyclic loading is equally critical. Cyclical triaxial tests were conducted on remolded monterey sand samples prepared by the wet method. Grain size and gravity of the sample compared with those of the authors. An isotropic stress condition was maintained during the saturation of the sample by the use of an axial load transducer coupled directly to the sample and inside the triaxial cell and using the signal from the transducer to control the closed servo loop.
