USE OF SIMULATION FOR TRAINING AND RESEARCH IN MARINE TRAFFIC GUIDANCE SYSTEMS

Examination of the problems introduced by present day marine traffic in pilotage waters indicates the need for increased involvement by local authorities. To this end it is suggested that simulation could play a useful part both in testing new ideas or systems and in the training of personnel. In particular this paper describes how the Hull Nautical College Simulator is adapted for pilotage training and proposes that color radar should be tried on a simulator.
