DYNAMIC SOIL-STRUCTURE INTERACTION IN OFFSHORE STORAGE TANKS

The dynamic response of an oil storage tank sitting on sea bottom to oscillating sea wave forces is analyzed. The mechanical model used includes the interaction of the tank body with the foundation soil, the sea water surrounding it, and the contained liquid. The elastic half space theory, which is currently applied to machine foundation analyses, has been adopted to represent the soil medium in the model. The relative importance of the various parameters is discussed and the application of the methods to the analysis of the Ekofisk tank in the North Sea is presented.
